A 26 year old man from Los Angeles was arrested last weekend after he allegedly walked into Olive View UCLA Medical Center in Sylmar, California and stabbed an on duty nurse multiple times with a knive. The nurse, whose name was not released was critically wounded and was being treated for her injuries at a local trauma center. The man, identified as Romero Carnailla, was said to have run into the hospital, approached the nurse who he didn’t know and stabbed her several times in the torso.
Police and hospital security located the man after they heard the victim screaming in the hospital. Carnailla was taken into custody on charges of assault with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $55,000. The suspect will likely be charged with the more serious crime of attempted murder based upon his conduct of stabbing the victim multiple times in the torso. For the crime of attempted murder the suspect could face life in prison. Assault with a deadly weapon is punishable by 2, 3 or 4 years in state prison and causing great bodily injury will likely cost him another 3 years of his life.
Sadly, this was the second of two nurse stabbings to occur on the same day at separate hospitals. These nurses do not sign on for this kind of abuse.
All of us at the Law Officwswish this nurse a very speedy recovery.
