Mr. Vallens has been practicing criminal defense and DUI defense since 1996. He practices mainly in Los Angeles and Ventura County Courts; however his practice takes him where his clients need him. His practice ranges from misdemeanor criminal and traffic offenses including DUI to complex felonies, multiple strike offenses and even murder. No case is too big or too small. Jeffrey Vallens was born and raised in Southern California. He earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of California before going on to law school at the University of LaVerne (Forbes Magazine Top 100) and launching a successful career as a criminal defense attorney. Mr. Vallens has been practicing criminal and DUI defense for over 20 years. He works in all courts in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties and as needed in other locations at the request of his clients.

Mr. Vallens was first licensed to practice law on May 28, 1996. Unlike most local lawyers Attorney Vallens has practiced on military bases in Southern California including Edwards Air Force Base and Fort Irwin Military Reservation.

• The U.S. Court of Military Appeals.

For six years Mr. Vallens was a board member of a fantastic local charity the Valley Community Legal Foundation. The VCLF in combination with the San Fernando Valley Bar Association helps support shelters for battered women, funds scholarships for students seeking careers in the legal field, provides shelter and blankets for the homeless and has built several children’s waiting rooms in Los Angeles County courthouses.

In recent years, Mr. Vallens has begun to pursue his passion to make wine. He began making wine as a hobby in 2011 and has continued to hone his skills for the ever since then. With over 35 murder and capital murder trials to his credit, UCLA and UCLA Law School graduate Loren Mandel is a master of the courtroom. We are proud to have Loren, of counsel, to the firm. Loren became known as the master at hung juries during his tenure with the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office. He would battle the District Attorney for days, weeks or even months and at the end of the trial, the bitter and discouraged District Attorney would often have no choice but to dismiss a case or offer a fantastic settlement. Together, Mr. Vallens and Loren Mandel have an amazing record of success in trial.

Loren started his career as an attorney with the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office. He was quickly promoted within the office and served as head deputy in Torrance, Inglewood and Compton Courts, before leaving the office to run public defender’s offices in Stockton and then San Diego Counties. At the public defender’s office Loren became known as the master of hung juries. Hung juries are very frustrating to a prosecutor because it causes them to use even more of their limited resources to bring a case to trial a second or even a third time. Hung juries often give rise to very favorable settlements for the defense, and this was often the case for Loren’s clients.

After retiring from public service Loren concentrated his practice on Third Strike cases in Orange County. Now he handles cases by special requests only. Most recently, Loren helped the Office with a First Degree Murder case in San Fernando Court. Loren’s tireless efforts in preparation for and during trial not only make him the great trial lawyer that he is, but his talents also help to lay the groundwork for obtaining winning results on appeal. Loren is a master at jury selection and fearless in the face of a court challenge. We are lucky to have Loren’s 45 years of hard core, old school criminal defense experience at our disposal.

We are sad to say that after over 4 and a half decades of practicing law, Loren finally decided to retire for good. After retiring from the Alternate Public Defender’s Office and then after retiring from his short career handling appointed third strike cases in Orange County.

Loren is now retired.

Our lead investigator, Dave Hance, worked in law enforcement for over a decade with the Los Angeles Police Department. He left the Los Angeles Police Department for a more satisfying career as a private investigator representing the accused. You may have seen Dave on The television network, Animal Planet’s hit show “Whale Wars.”” Dave has been an active member of the Sea Shepard project for many years. When Dave is not out saving the world, he still has time for defense investigation and his big heart and intense dedication make him a very talented investigator.
