A 39 year old Glendale, California man was arrested yesterday for residential burglary after police found Joshua Corbett on the Bel Air estate of Sandra Bullock. Maybe he just got lost hiking the Santa Monica Mountains.
Bullock was said to have an extensive security system on the property but that did not keep out Corbett who was arrested shortly before 7:00 a.m. Bullock’s neighbors said that their dogs would not stop parking which prompted them to make an early morning call to 911. LAPD officers responded and took Corbett into custody. Bullock was said to have been out receiving an award the prior day from Spike TV but was, in fact, at home at the time of the incident.
Corbett was booked for residential burglary which is a felony. He was taken to Los Angeles County Jail and will likely be in court tomorrow where he should face charges of burglary. News reports did not specify if the intruder was actually in the home or simply on the property.
Residential burglary is a serious offense in California. It is a “presumed prison” charge, meaning that if convicted of the crime, the judge must find a good reason to give probation instead of time in state prison. Burglary carries a punishment of 2, 4 or 6 years in state prison unless probation is granted. Additionally, burglary of an occupied dwelling makes the crime even worse.
